SQL Assignment Execution & Data Warehouse Design for Academic Submission

Industry: Academic / Education

Platform: Microsoft SQL Server, ERDPlus

  1. Project Title:
End-to-End SQL Assignment & Data Warehouse Modeling for Coursework Submission
  1. Objective:
To complete and document a SQL-based academic assignment in Microsoft SQL Server, including database creation, table design, data insertion, query writing, and database diagramming. A second follow-up task involved creating a data warehouse schema design using ERDPlus based on the previously built operational database.

  1. Project Description:
The client required completion of a university SQL homework assignment structured into detailed steps. The deliverables included:
  1. a) Creating a new database (Homework)
  2. b) Designing and creating multiple tables (with correct keys and constraints)
Inserting sample records
  1. c) Running SQL SELECT queries to verify inserted data
  2. d) Writing advanced SQL queries for multi-table joins
  3. e) Creating a full database diagram
  4. f) Preparing a step-by-step documentation instead of a screen recording
After successful delivery, a second assignment was provided to:
  1. a) Design a dimensional model (star schema) using ERDPlus
  2. b) Submit a step-by-step explanation of the dimensional modeling process

  1. Tools & Technologies Used:
  2. a) Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
  3. b) com (for ER modeling)
  4. c) Google Docs (step-by-step documentation)
  5. d) Zoom/Google Meet (for client communication)
  6. e) SQL (DDL & DML)

  1. Key Features Implemented:
TaskDescription
SQL Database DesignCreated all required tables with appropriate data types and constraints
Data InsertionPopulated tables with realistic sample values for assignment evaluation
SQL QueriesWrote seven queries to retrieve all data and a complex JOIN query
Database DiagramGenerated visual representation of table relationships within SSMS
Step-by-Step GuideCreated detailed documentation of the workflow for the client
Data Warehouse ModelingDesigned star schema on ERDPlus based on the operational database

  1. Challenges & Resolutions:
ChallengeResolution
Client initially requested a Zoom recording which wasn’t feasibleDelivered a comprehensive step-by-step Google Doc with SQL script
No raw .csv or structured data files providedReverse engineered table structure and data from provided image
Required creation of ERDPlus diagrams without prior experience on platformSelf-learned ERDPlus tool and delivered dimensional model as per rubric
Limited budget for initial assignment ($50)Accepted and built trust, with promise of continued projects

  1. Outcome & Benefits:
  2. a) Successfully delivered both assignments with high accuracy and within deadlines
  3. b) Provided client clarity through call discussions and transparent communication
  4. c) Enabled students to meet grading rubric requirements (SQL execution + ERD design)
  5. d) Opened path for potential long-term collaboration on academic and technical tasks

  1. Client Feedback (Summary):
“Thanks, my friend. I will continue coming back to you if the results are good and correct… I’ll leave a good rating review!”
